The imbalance between the efforts applied and expected or acquired results equals to frustration. Have you ever felt like you have tried all you can and yet see no progress? Ever worked on something so hard for so long and no result or progress? That is the feeling am talking about. I kinda felt that way when I walked into my professor’s office yesterday. I told him “it’s taking me a long time to organize my thoughts”, “i don’t want to quit”,” ifeeling like am on the edge.” We had a very positive discussion and i came out of his office with a sense of new energy. I am sure am not the first neither last to sail this boat.
Garry Zancanaro writes that:
All successful people have to deal with plenty of frustration as they progress towards their goals, this may even be one of the biggest reasons for their success. Their frustration with their poor results or lack of success may have been so great they were driven to set goals and inspired to work hard at achieving them. They almost certainly learned strategies and techniques to deal with their frustrations, which allowed them to overcome their problems and be more productive, which definitely contributed to their success.
Some Major Cause of frustrations
- Job- career
- Finances
- Relationships
- School
- Old habits
When we are frustrated we easily get convinced that our actions are not working, no matter how hard we try. As a result, we are much more likely to reduce our intensity, thereby reducing our chances of success.
Responding to frustrations
Different people respond differently to the same circumstance. This is the difference between those who succeed and those who quit. When people are frustrated, some take it off on their spouse, kids, cars, pets and friends, others blame others for their frustrations, while others simply quit.
Positive ways to handle frustrations
- Do not indulge
- Take a break
- Explore a different route
- Break the problem into different tasks
- Look on the positive side
- Do not Quit
- Ask God for Strength
Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. (Isaiah 40:31 NASB)
