Clunkers! Do they save you money?
I have driven the same used car for the last six years and it has given me excellent service. It does not have all the bells and whistles as the new cars have, but it serves me pretty well. Lately however, we had to make a choice of whether to invest in another newer car or keep the old clunker. The transmission failed although the motor had been changed at beginning of this year. We did our due diligence and we figured that by putting a reconditioned transmission, we would recover our investment just on gas savings in six months (this is how long we intend to keep the clunker anyway).
The old clunker now has a working transmission that is 70K miles less than the car and it drives perfect; and we did not get into more debt or car note!!
This might sound like conventional wisdom or being ‘street-smart’ for some people but I believe that we are learning to ask from God for wisdom in small or major decisions that we make each day.
Have you been in a tight money decision? We would love to hear from you.
